What the sign tool does

This tool puts an image of your signature on the pages of a PDF, in the place you choose. You draw the signature with a mouse or a finger on a pad inside the page, or you type your name and it is drawn in the site's own typeface. Either way the signature becomes a transparent image placed over the page content. Nothing else in the file changes: text stays selectable, searchable text, images keep their quality, and the pages keep their count, their size and their orientation.

All of it happens inside your browser. Neither the file nor the signature is uploaded to a server, and nothing about them passes through Khallas, which is the difference between signing here and the sites that ask you to upload the contract first. Because the tool places an image on the page, it is not a certificate-backed digital signature, and the difference is explained below so you know when this is enough and when it is not.

When to sign a PDF instead of printing and scanning it

The usual way to sign a page that arrived by email is to print it, sign it with a pen, scan it and send it back. That route needs a printer, a scanner and time, and what comes out the other end is heavier and less legible than what you started with. Signing the file directly turns all of that into a minute on a phone, and the page keeps its original sharpness because nothing in it was scanned or photographed again.

The situations repeat: a lease and its annexes, an offer letter to be signed and returned the same day, a non-disclosure agreement before a meeting, a letter authorising someone to visit a government office on your behalf, approval of a supplier quotation, a delivery receipt, a freelance contract with a client in another country. Every one of them needs a legible signature in the right place on the page, not a crooked scan that comes back with a note saying it cannot be read.

Draw your signature or type it, and keep it on your device

The pad has two modes. In draw mode you write your signature with a mouse or a finger, and the pad draws at twice the resolution so the stroke stays crisp once it is scaled down onto a page; a single tap with no drag leaves a dot rather than nothing. In type mode you enter your name and it is drawn in a heavy weight of the site's Arabic typeface, shaped and joined by the browser itself, so Arabic letters come out connected rather than separated. Clear empties the pad and drops the current signature, and switching between the two modes clears it as well, on purpose, so what is on the screen is what the file gets signed with.

If you sign often, press Keep on this device under the signature preview. It then waits at the top of the tool every time you open it in the same browser, ready in one tap. Nothing is kept unless you press that button: merely using a signature in a run never saves it, and there is no automatic save. Kept signatures live in your browser alone, are never sent anywhere and never sync to another device, each has its own delete button beside it, and three is the most you can keep. That is also why signing is deliberately excluded from saved presets: a preset captures every option at once, and an image of someone's signature should not be stored by a gesture that meant something else.

Where the signature lands, and how to drag it into place

There are two ways to place it. The first is five ready corners, bottom right, bottom centre, bottom left, top right and top left, with three sizes that make the signature roughly an eighth, a quarter or a third of the page width, set in from the edge by about six per cent of the shorter side. The second is to drag the signature on the preview of the page itself to any point you like, and pull the corner handle to make it bigger or smaller. The preview is not an approximation: the rectangle it draws comes from the same function the engine stamps the file with, so what you see is what gets printed.

A dragged spot is stored as the centre of the mark rather than a corner, which is why it stays where you put it when you resize it instead of creeping away. Arrow keys nudge it a small step, and with Shift a larger one, so a signature can be placed without a mouse. Picking a ready corner or a ready size drops the dragged spot, because a corner and a point cannot both be where the signature is. If you chose more than one page, arrows appear above the preview and show the pages that will actually be signed rather than always page one, with a count of them above it.

How to sign a PDF step by step

Open the sign PDF page and drop your file in the tray, or tap it to pick the file from your device or from the Files app on a phone.
Draw your signature on the pad with a mouse or a finger, or switch to type mode and enter your name, or pick a signature you kept on this device earlier.
Choose the pages: the last one, which is the default, or the first, or all of them, or a range you type such as 1-3,5.
Drag the signature on the page preview to where it belongs and size it with the corner handle, or simply pick one of the five corners and one of the three sizes.
Press Sign file. If several files need the same signature, drop them together; one run takes up to 3 files.
Check the file name in the field above the download button and change it if you like, then download the signed copy and open it to confirm the placement. A single file keeps its own name with signed added, and several arrive together in a ZIP.

Limits worth knowing

This is not a certificate-backed digital signature. The tool places an image of your signature on the page, exactly as if you had signed on paper and scanned it; it issues no certificate and ties the file to no identity. If an organisation requires an accredited signature, use the platform they specify.
The signature becomes part of the page content, but any capable PDF editor can modify any file. If you want to restrict who opens or edits the result, add a password with the Protect PDF tool after signing.
A file that already carries a real digital signature loses that signature's validity after any change, and signing here is a change. Sign first, then send the file on to whoever signs it cryptographically, not the other way round.
One run places one signature. A document that needs two people's signatures is signed once, then the result is dropped back in and signed a second time in its own place.
One run takes up to 3 files, and all of them get the same signature, the same pages and the same position. The position is held as a fraction of the page, so files of different sizes get the mark in the same relative place, nudged back inside the sheet if it would hang off the edge. The ceiling is technical rather than commercial, because every file is read and written inside your own browser.
A password-protected file will not open until it is unlocked, and the message that says so carries a link that takes your file to the unlock tool with it.
Kept signatures live in this browser on this device alone. A different browser, a private window or cleared site data means drawing again, and three at a time is the maximum.

Common problems and their fixes

It only signed the last page and I wanted all of them

The last page is the default, because that is where most contracts are signed. Choose All in the pages row, or Range and type the page numbers you want, then run the tool again on the original file.

I chose a range, left the box empty, and every page got signed

An empty box means every page, not one page. Type the page number or the range into it, such as 2 for a single page or 1-3,5 for several, and note that the box also accepts Arabic-Indic digits and the Arabic comma.

The signature is too big, too small, or sits on top of the text

The three ready sizes give roughly an eighth, a quarter or a third of the page width. For anything in between, pull the corner handle on the preview, and for anywhere else drag the signature itself. The preview shows the real page with the mark on it, so set the position there before you press.

My signature disappeared when I switched between draw and type

Switching modes clears the pad and drops the signature on purpose, so you never sign with something you cannot see. Draw or type it again in whichever mode you settled on, or pick a kept signature from the top of the tool.

The sign button does nothing, or it says one of the values is not valid

Usually there is no signature yet: a line under the pad says so. Draw at least one stroke or type your name until the signature preview appears, then press again.

I used my signature, then opened the tool again and it was gone

Using a signature does not keep it. Press Keep on this device under the signature preview, and after that it waits at the top of the tool on every visit in the same browser. If it says the space is full, delete one of the three you already kept first.

It says the file is password protected

The message carries a link to the unlock PDF tool that takes your file with it. Enter the password there, then drop the unlocked copy back in here and sign it. The tool never guesses a password you do not know.

Is signing a PDF online legally valid?

No. You draw in the browser and the signature is placed on the file on your own device, so nothing from the file or the signature reaches us. Can someone remove the signature after I send the file?

Can I sign every page of the document at once?

Why does my typed name come out with separated letters?

It does not come out separated here. Type mode draws your name through the browser itself, which is what shapes and joins Arabic letters, and the result is saved as a transparent image placed on the page, so the shape of the name does not depend on the fonts installed wherever the file is opened. If letters look separated elsewhere in the file, they were like that before the signature was added.
