Frequently asked questions

Where do the suggested headings come from?

From your own file. We measure the font size of every line and treat lines set larger than the body text as headings. A line repeated on most pages is a running header, not a chapter, so it is dropped. All of it happens in your browser.

Can I change the suggestion?

Yes, it is a starting point: rename any entry, change its page, move it up or down, indent it to make it a sub-heading, or delete it before saving.

How many levels are supported?

Three: a chapter, a heading under it, and one more below that. That is what a reader's side panel shows clearly.

Can I remove bookmarks a file already has?

Yes. Delete every entry and save, and the file comes out with no bookmarks and no leftover trace of the old ones in its bytes.

Does it work on scanned files?

Automatic suggestion needs a text layer, and a scan is only images. You can still add entries by hand, or run the file through Arabic OCR first.
