The simple working rule: send the file by email and send the password another way, such as a text message or a phone call. If the message is forwarded or lands at the wrong address, the contents stay closed. Never put the password in the same email, because that removes the entire benefit.
What this actually protects, and what it does not
A password encrypts the file's contents so it cannot be opened without it, which suits everyday sharing of contracts and reports. It is not a substitute for a digital signature or an enterprise document management system, and it cannot stop someone who has the password from resharing the file. Choose a strong password that cannot be guessed from the company name or the contract date.

Most online protection tools upload your contract to a server to encrypt it there, which is a plain contradiction: you hand a confidential document to a third party in order to protect it. Here the encryption happens inside your browser, so neither the contract nor the password reaches us. That also means we cannot recover the password if you forget it, so keep it somewhere safe.
